Using A Snoring Pillow

A lot of snorers may be unaware that they share their snoring condition with over 70 million other people in the USA alone. For natural relief from snoring the anti-snoring pillow has to be on of the safest non-invasive products available. You need to be aware that snoring can however, be a sign of a more serious health problem like sleep apnea.

You’ll probably have seen advertising in the papers and across the media, offering nasal sprays, dilators, cpap machines and even surgery as a way to stop your snoring. The snore pillow may be one of the best non invasive snoring aids to try before you consider more of those severe solutions.

The snoring pillow is a foam pillow of a special design that will keep your airway clear and ensure that you remain on your side whilst asleep, a better position for snorers than on one’s back.

As well as keeping the head and neck extended to clear the airway, the pillow will position the head so as to reduce the risk of soft tissues from blocking or partially blocking the airway and allow you to have a snore-less night sleep.

All manner of snoring aids are available online from stores such as Amazon. The pillows are available for a range of budgets, and can be purchased for under $50 for a basic model up to around $300 for a luxury unit. All these pillows vary in color, materials and design, but set out to achieve similar aims.

These pillows are made of sculpted foam with a cover and fit the contours of your head and neck. If you suffer from allergies you will find a low allergy pillow useful. Most are washable for added cleanliness. I would also advise checking out customer reviews to ensure you are getting the best pillow for your money.

Professionally tested snoring pillows are always a good idea, particularly ones backed up by test data on their effectiveness during trials. This type of well respected model will provide you with good results for the life of the pillow.

Obstructive sleep apnea can increase death risk

For those of you that not taking OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) seriously should think again because according to experts at John Hopkins University in Baltimore people that suffer sleep apnea are more likely to die from any cause than other people that do not have sleep apnea.

What makes sleep apnea different from snoring is, sleep apnea cause interruptions on breathing when sleeping. These interruptions may happen more than one time, and this can cause serious health problem such as high blood pressure, heart failure and stroke. The risk is more obvious in men aged from 40 to 70 years old, regardless of sex, weight, smoking or not smoking.

According to NHLBI (National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute) about 12 million adults in America have sleep apnea and most of them are not diagnosed and treated. In a more severe case of sleep apnea, the sufferer stops breathing from 20 to 30 second when sleeping and this force the sufferer to wake up gasping for air.

Sleep apnea commonly linked to obesity, so one of the treatments for sleep apnea is weight loss. Other than weight loss, the use of CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) that applies pressure to the sufferer’s throat to keep it from collapsing is one of the most successful treatments.

Surgery is also an option, this surgery may include the removal of tonsil. Mouth guards and jaw supporter can also be a good option for treatments. It is a good idea for you to check whether you have sleep apnea or not knowing the risk that you must face if you let this condition untreated.
